3 Techniques to Improve Your Focus
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.” Matthew 6:22
The moon moves through the sign of Sagittarius. This bright fire sign is all about focus. Aim. Draw your arrow back, breathe, and let go! Just like the archer, you have to focus before you can hit your mark.
In yoga, we call the focal point the drishti. In a balancing pose, your drishti keeps your head still, the fluid in your ears motionless, and your mind steady and at ease. By fixing your gaze on one thing, like staring at the flame of a candle, you can overcome any and all distractions that pull you away from your life’s work.
Here are three techniques that you can try today to improve your focus and align yourself with your goals:
Brainstorm - You are here for a purpose. What purpose is that? You need to find your focal point. Brainstorm a list of things you’re passionate about. Share your ideas with your friends after Pint and Pose to open up organic conversations about the things you want to focus on. Be creative. Don’t be shy, write down all the things that make you passionate about life and passionate about your purpose here. It can be as simple as the way your body feels after a workout. It can be as complex as saving the oceans from micro plastics. Whatever it is that you’re trying to focus on, brainstorm ways you can focus on that thing.
Step Back - It’s okay to get distracted. Yoga means union to the divine, but it is okay to get distracted. Don’t stress. Have a beer. Let yourself take a step back from the painting before you dip your brush in a new color. Get a feel for the way things are going by spending time away from them. When you come back, you will have a clearer vision of what you want to achieve.
Follow the Light - Listen to your heart. You have the power to manifest your dreams. The hard part is taking the steps you need to create the life you are imagining. When you look at the picture, focus on the things that make you light up, your friends, your family, your health and wellbeing. Schedule a time for phone calls, walks on the river trail, and a healthy home-cooked dinner with your family.
Stay tuned for my next post where I will share one of my modified butternut squash soup recipes. Spending time in the kitchen is a great way to bring your family together and focus on love.
Lots of love to you!!
